Fleas on the Blue and Silver Paddocks
High-resolution deep zoom image of a ceramic installation exploring the beauty of the Australian landscape.
Scout Dures' ceramic installation explores the beauty of the Australian landscape, particularly inspired by childhood holidays at Seal Rocks and a formative road trip along the west coast.
About the Artwork
This extensive collection of ceramic vessels presents varied sizes and forms, using colours reflecting the Australian bush—greys, greens, ochres, browns, and deep blues. The scattered arrangement evokes Fred Williams' iconic landscape paintings.

Artist Statement
The work explores the beauty of the Australian landscape through ceramic techniques including wheel throwing, coil building, and slip casting. The artist was influenced by poet Robert Gray and ceramicist Hayley West.
Capture Method
All of these individual ceramics were imaged using a basic photogrammetry approach, followed by specialised processing:
- Individual photogrammetry - Each ceramic piece was captured separately using photogrammetry
- Orthomosaic rendering - A high-resolution orthomosaic render was created for the complete installation layout
- Custom deep zoom technology - We developed bespoke technology that allows us to compose multiple deep zoom stacks into a single unified view
- Retained individual stacks - Each ceramic maintains its own deep zoom stack for maximum detail
- Full scale accuracy - All pieces are represented at true scale in the final composite
This custom approach allows viewers to explore both the overall installation composition and zoom into individual ceramic pieces with exceptional detail, while maintaining the spatial relationships and scale of the original artwork.
Deep Zoom Technology
This high-resolution image allows you to explore intricate details of each ceramic piece:
- View the overall installation composition
- Zoom in to examine surface textures and glazing
- Explore individual vessels and their unique characteristics
- Experience the work with detail impossible to see in person
